You're not crazy and you're not alone -
You're on the
Perimenopause
Roller-Coaster
If you feel exhausted but wired at 3 AM, weepy on Monday and rage-y on Wednesday, sharp one week and forgetting words the next — you're not crazy, that's the fingerprint of perimenopause.

Your hormones aren't decreasing in a tidy, predictable line. During this stage, estrogen and progesterone spike and crash, often within the same week. That's the roller-coaster. And it can start as early as your late 30s, even while your cycles still look "regular" on a calendar.

Already in menopause? Then you know the symptoms, but did you know the lack of hormones also puts your bones, heart and brain at risk for osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and dementia?
Why your other doctors missed it
Most labs can't catch perimenopause, and most clinicians weren't trained to look for it. A standard hormone panel measures a single moment in time — but during perimenopause, your levels can swing dramatically within hours. A "normal" estradiol on a Tuesday morning tells us almost nothing about what's happening on Friday afternoon.
That's why so many of our patients arrive having heard "your labs are fine" for years. Or worse, told they have to wait until they haven't had a period for a year before they can start treatment.

What you can start doing this week
Targeted treatment is where the deepest results come from, but there are changes you can make on your own starting today:
Your 5-step Roller-Coaster Reset
✓ Protein at breakfast — 30g, not 10. Stable blood sugar is the foundation hormones rebalance on. Skip this and the rest barely works.
✓ Magnesium glycinate before bed. 300–400mg. Calms the nervous system, supports sleep, and many women are deficient.
✓ Strength train 2–3 times a week. Muscle is metabolic insulation against perimenopause. Cardio alone won't do it — you must build up your muscle mass.
✓ Get adequate fiber. Fiber is what helps your gut microbiome eliminate excess hormones when you are on that roller-coaster high as well as help prevent bottoming out.
✓ Cut alcohol to a hard minimum. Alcohol is estrogen-disrupting and sleep-wrecking, especially during the roller-coaster years.
When lifestyle alone isn't enough
If you've been white-knuckling this for a while, lifestyle changes usually can't carry the load on their own. Perimenopause isn't a willpower problem — it's a biology problem. And it's one of the most treatable hormonal stages, when someone actually knows what to look for. With a comprehensive evaluation — symptoms first, then targeted labs timed to your cycle — most of our patients see meaningful changes in sleep, mood, and mental clarity within 4–8 weeks. Treatment often (but not always) includes bioidentical hormones, but always starts with you, not a protocol.

Which option is right for you?
Your initial consultation will include an hour-long appointment where we obtain a detailed symptom inventory, make recommendations for any labs that may be necessary, as well as discussion of your plan. It is common to have follow-up visits to discuss labs or assess response to the treatment plan, as well as monitoring visits at least every 6 months to maintain any prescriptions, so many of our patients find it more affordable to do option 1.
